What is and what is the use:

Que es y como se usa

“Be going to” is a structure used to talk about the future. We use it when we want to express plans, intentions, or predictions based on present evidence. It is very common in spoken English and helps us communicate what someone is going to do or what will happen soon. 

“Be going to” es una estructura que se utiliza para hablar sobre el futuro. La usamos cuando queremos expresar planes, intenciones o predicciones basadas en evidencia presente. Es muy común en inglés hablado y nos ayuda a comunicar lo que alguien va a hacer o lo que sucederá pronto.

Explanation 

  • Plans and intentions: When a nurse explains what a patient will do or must do in the near future. Planes e intenciones: Cuando una enfermera explica lo que un paciente hará o debe hacer en el futuro cercano.
    Example: You are going to take your medicine after meals. Vas a tomar tu medicina después de las comidas.
  • Predictions based on evidence: When there is clear evidence something will happen. Predicciones basadas en evidencia: Cuando hay evidencia clara de que algo sucederá.

Example: The patient is going to feel better after following the instructions. El paciente va a sentirse mejor si sigue las instrucciones.

  • Immediate future: Actions that will happen soon. Futuro inmediato: Acciones que ocurrirán pronto.
    Example: The nurse is going to check your vital signs now. La enfermera va a revisar tus signos vitales ahora.

  1. Do not use (Common Errors)

 

Cuando los estudiantes usan “Be going to”, suelen cometer los siguientes errores:

  1. Olvidar el verbo “be”
    ❌ I going to take my medicine.
    ✅ Correcto: I am going to take my medicine.
    Explicación: Siempre debes usar el verbo be (am / is / are) antes de going to.
  2. Confundir “will” y “going to”
    ❌ I will going to follow the exercise plan.
    ✅ Correcto: I am going to follow the exercise plan.
    Explicación: No se puede usar will y going to juntos. Escoge uno según el contexto:
    • Going to → planes, intenciones, evidencia presente
    • Will → decisiones espontáneas, predicciones generales
  3. Usar la forma base incorrectamente en negativo o interrogativo
    ❌ You not going to skip your medication.
    ✅ Correcto: You are not going to skip your medication.
    ❌ Are you going skip your check-up?
    ✅ Correcto: Are you going to skip your check-up?
    Explicación: Siempre debes mantener going to + verbo base y no omitir “to”.
  4. Olvidar concordancia entre sujeto y “be”
    ❌ She are going to follow her diet.
    ✅ Correcto: She is going to follow her diet.
    Explicación: El verbo be cambia según el sujeto:
    • I → am
    • He / She / It → is
    • You / We / They → are
  5. Usar “going to” para acciones que no son planes o evidencias
    ❌ I am going to have a headache tomorrow. (sin evidencia)
    ✅ Correcto: I think I will have a headache tomorrow.
    Explicación: Para predicciones sin evidencia presente, usa will en lugar de going to.
