Cleft Sentences

What is and what is the use:

Que es y como se usa

The Future Perfect tense is used to describe an action that will be completed before a specific time in the future. It allows us to predict results, plan ahead, or indicate that something will have happened by a certain point. This tense is particularly useful in nursing and healthcare, where professionals often need to discuss outcomes, treatment plans, and expected patient progress.

For example, a nurse may need to communicate: “By the end of the week, the patient will have completed their therapy,” which clearly indicates that the action (completing therapy) will already be finished at a future point.

The Future Perfect tense also allows us to express certainty or expectations about future results, such as treatment effectiveness, prognosis, or recovery timelines. It is often used with time expressions like:

  • by tomorrow
  • by the end of the week
  • by next month
  • before the consultation
  • by the time

In nursing contexts, this tense helps professionals:

  • Explain when a treatment plan or therapy will be completed.
  • Predict health outcomes.
  • Indicate when a diagnosis test or procedure will be finished.
  • Communicate expected patient recovery or follow-ups.

  1. How to use (structure)

Form

Structure

Example (Nursing context)

Affirmative

Subject + will have + past participle

The patient will have completed the therapy by next week.

Negative

Subject + will not have (won’t have) + past participle

The patient will not have missed any doses of medication by Friday.

Interrogative

Will + subject + have + past participle?

Will the patient have received all necessary vaccinations by tomorrow?

  • Use the past participle of the main verb (complete → completed, take → taken, perform → performed).
  • Time expressions like by tomorrow, by the end of the week, by the next session are often included.
  • The negative form contracts “will not” to won’t in spoken English: “The patient won’t have taken the medication by tonight.”

  1. Do not use (Common Errors)

  1. Confusing Future Perfect with Future Simple
  • “The patient will complete the therapy by tomorrow.” (Future Simple – not clear that the action will be finished)
  • “The patient will have completed the therapy by tomorrow.” (Future Perfect – emphasizes completion)
  1. Incorrect past participle
  • “The nurse will have give the medication.”
  • “The nurse will have given the medication.”
  1. Omitting time expressions (optional but recommended in medical context)
  • “The patient will have recovered.” (When?)
  • “The patient will have recovered by the next consultation.”
  1. Using present tense after “will have”
  • “The patient will have recovers fully.”
  • “The patient will have recovered fully.”
