What is it and what is the use?
- “How many” is used to ask about countable nouns (sustantivos contables).
- Countable nouns are things we can count: 1 pill, 2 pills, 3 pills.
- In a hospital, nurses use “How many” to ask about the number of pills, tablets, injections, or drops.
Structure:

- Affirmative answer: I take two pills per day.
- Negative answer: I don’t take any pills.
Examples in hospital context:
- How many tablets do you take? → ¿Cuántas tabletas toma?
- How many injections does the patient need today? → ¿Cuántas inyecciones necesita el paciente hoy?
- How many drops should I put in the eye? → ¿Cuántas gotas debo poner en el ojo?
- How many vitamins do you take every morning? → ¿Cuántas vitaminas toma cada mañana?
- How many spoons of syrup are necessary? → ¿Cuántas cucharadas de jarabe son necesarias?
Common errors (Do not use):
